JEFFERSON COUNTY DEPARTMENTS RECOGNIZED FOR ANTI-LITTER EFFORTS Birmingham, AL - During its work session on November 17, 2015, The Jefferson County Commission recognized the Jefferson County Department of Roads and Transportation, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jefferson County Storm Water Management Department for being selected to receive awards from Alabama People Against a Littered State (AL PALS) during its Annual State Governor’s Awards ceremony that took place on November 11, 2015. The Department of Roads and Transportation received an award in the County category for its assistance in removing and properly disposing of 65 tons of litter and trash collected during 35 cleanups by volunteers from along roadways in Unincorporated Jefferson County during fiscal year 2014 – 2015. McCullers, Director, Jefferson County Storm Water Management Department The Sheriff’s Office received the AL PALS award for its support and assistance in protecting more than 1000 volunteers and providing traffic control during 35 roadside litter cleanups that were held within Unincorporated Jefferson County during fiscal year 2014 - 2015.
