JEFFERSON COUNTY RECEIVES CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING FROM GOVERNMENT FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced yesterday that Jefferson County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Sept.20, 2022. Judging is conducted by an impartial panel, which decided the County met the high standards of the program including demonstrating full disclosure and clearly communicating its financial story. The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“Since taking the CFO position achieving this recognition has been a goal of our team,” said Angela Dixon, Jefferson County CFO. “This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort of the finance team, Commissioners, County Manager’s Office, and all county departments to compile the required information. This is the first time the county has ever received this distinguished award.”

Commission President Jimmie Stephens said this represents the new direction of the County. “As someone who was here during the bankruptcy, to see this type of achievement by our finance staff, is truly the mark of new era for Jefferson County. Angela’s team has worked hard to put in place new financial controls and is committed to transparency.”

Commissioner Joe Knight is chair of the Finance Committee and congratulated the Finance Team on the achievement. “I know personally from working with the finance team on our budgets that they have been diligent in pulling this information together in a way that is transparent and gives a complete financial picture of the County in a timely manner. I’m very proud of the work this team is doing.”
