|JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSION NAMES FIRST ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR – JEFFERSON TRAYWICK|
Jefferson Traywick has joined Jefferson County as the first Economic Development Advisor. He comes to the County after working 12 years for the Birmingham Business Alliance and 10 years with the Bessemer Industrial Development Board where he managed the organization's $20 million in assets and business recruitment efforts.
During his 22-year career in economic development, Traywick has managed numerous economic development and commercial projects in the Birmingham region, resulting in the creation of more than 19,280 jobs and more than $4.7 billion in capital investment. His career focus has always been on aiding new and growing industries in the community with the goal of creating new opportunities for citizens.
Traywick earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2019, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Montevallo in2001. In December of 2022, he was awarded a certificate of completion from the Leading Economic Change Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and in addition has completed the following programs: the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, the Georgia Institute of Technology Economic Development Finance Program and Basic Economic Development Course.
Traywick has been the recipient of the 2012 BirminghamBusiness Journal's Top 40 Under 40 award, the 2015 Development CounsellorsInternational Top 40 Rising Economic Development Stars Under 40, and in 2018named one of the Top 50 Economic Developers in North America by Consultant Connect. He also serves as a gubernatorial appointment to the Red Mountain Greenway and Recreational Commission, serves on the board of the Alabama Chapter of NAIOP, and is a member of the PARCA Leadership Roundtable where he served as the 2022 Chairman. He is also a member of the Economic Development Association of Alabama, the Alabama-Germany Partnership, the Southern Economic Development Council, and the International Economic Development Council.
He is the proud husband of Alexandra, and father toWilliam (6), and Sarah (2). In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors includinghiking and hunting, along with being a movie geek who has dabbled in actingover the years.
