Jefferson County Tax Assessor Completes Final Step to Providing Online Exemptions

News Conference 10 AM, Monday, April 25 at Jefferson County Courthouse

Birmingham, AL – Jefferson County Tax Assessor, Gaynell Hendricks, will have a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, on the first floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse, 716 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd N. Office 170. She will discuss the office having cleared the final step in providing online exemptions for the citizens of Jefferson County, following the Commission’s approval this week of a new agreement with E-Ring, Inc, to provide new software for the system.

“This effort to provide online exemptions began four years ago when I witnessed a father with four children, during a storm, rushing to the office to meet a deadline to claim his exemption,” said Hendricks. “I felt like we could do better as a department and have worked to get legislation passed to allow online exemptions.”

Hendricks also credits her partnership with the Birmingham Board of Realtors, and the National Association of Black Realist for helping her get it approved.

The department will roll out instructions and information to the public in the next few months and plans to be live with the new system October 1, 2022.
