Jefferson County Environmental Services Department Lifts Advisory for Cahaba River in Riverchase
6/26/2020

The Jefferson County Department of Environmental Services is lifting its advisory to the public about recreation on the Cahaba from Hwy 31 in Hoover to County Road 52.

“We have been monitoring water quality since the accident happened on Tuesday afternoon and our bacterial test results from Thursday morning were 15 colonies/100 ml, well below ADEM’s standard of 235 for swimming and fishing,”said David Denard, Jefferson County Environmental Services Director. “We will continue to monitor the river through Monday but are lifting our earlier advisory for contact with the river.”

Jefferson County Environmental Services issued the initial advisory following an accident where a contractor, doing an inspection, ruptured a force main line.  The public was notified within an hour of the incident happening, and the leak was contained within 2 hours. Crews remain on site to do a permanent repair to the line.
