Jefferson County Commission Disperses Annual Funds To Local School Boards

The Jefferson County Commission announced today its annual$18-million allocation to local Boards of Education. These are citizen taxdollars going back to the community to improve education. Funds will bedisbursed as follows:

Board of Education of the City ofBessemer                          $   656,410.29

Board of Education of the City ofBirmingham                      $ 4,150,965.62

Board of Education of the City ofFairfield                              $   298,267.73

Board of Education of the City ofHomewood                      $   784,525.93

Board of Education of the City ofHoover                               $ 1,911,804.81

Board of Education of the City ofLeeds                                  $    298,535.11

Board of Education of the City ofMidfield                             $    187,123.80

Board of Education of the City ofMountain Brook             $    794,999.54

Board of Education of the City ofTarrant                               $    218,120.55

Board of Education of the City ofTrussville                           $    777,445.16

Board of Education of the City ofVestavia Hills                    $ 1,316,218.97

Jefferson County Board ofEducation                                       $6,605,582.49

Jefferson County Commissioners will present the checks intheir respective districts. The money is distributed based on the number ofstudents in each school district from Jefferson County. The Commission votedthree years ago to start these distributions and they will continue until theoutstanding warrants are retired.

“This gives each school system much needed funds to use fortheir individual needs,” said Commission President Jimmie Stephens. “It is anexample of the County Commission’s commitment to our educators and improvingthe quality of life for our citizens.”
