BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS ALLIANCE GROWTH REPORT SHOWS MORE JOBS AND INVESTMENT IN JEFFERSON COUNTY IN 2018

Birmingham, AL (June 26, 2019) – Jefferson County showed significant increases in the recent Birmingham Business Alliance Growth Report.According to the study Jefferson County added 3,421 new jobs and secured more than $658,126,333 million in capital investment. “These are encouraging numbers for the County,” said Jefferson County Commissioner Steve Ammons, who is the Commissioner responsible for Economic Development. “With recent wins like the Amazon distribution hub, U.S. Steel expanding, and our collaborative development in Warrior, the County is truly in a positive position to attract more business. And, I recently had the pleasure of working with members of the Birmingham Airport Authority andthe BBA at the Paris Airshow I’m proud of the strides that were taken by this team to build international relationships for future economic development prospects in the area.”

Jefferson County is working with not only the BBA, but also the state and other regional economic development groups to collaborate and seek out opportunities.

“Jefferson County is the core of our seven-county region and therefore a meaningful and impactful partner in many economic development projects,” said Fred McCallum, interim CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance.“From Amazon to DC BLOX to Shipt, the county has been at the table working with companies to ensure a smooth relocation or expansion. We congratulate the Jefferson County Commission on another successful year of growing jobs and capital investment.”

Jefferson County has two Industrial Parks, one in McCalla with 835 acres available, and the other off Lakeshore Drive with 41 acres available. Key projects that attributed to the County’s growth in 2018 include the afore mentioned Amazon (1,500 job $325.3 million capital investment; DCBlox (20 jobs and $167 million capital investment), Shipt expansion (881 jobs,$10 million capital investment), Birmingham Control Systems (40 jobs, $1.95 million capital investment), Wyndy (17 jobs, $1.1 million capital investment), Allied Mineral Products ($11.9 million capital investment), BBVA expansion (68 new jobs), O’Neal Steel (14 Jobs, $1.7 million capital investment), Induron Coatings (3 jobs, $90,000 capital investment), BioHorizons expansion (60 jobs,$2 million capital investment), Brasfield & Gorrie expansion (88 jobs,$17.2 million capital investment), Corona Group (12 jobs, $1.2 million capital investment), Simpson Door Co. (3 jobs, $35,000 capital investment), P & S Transportation (200 jobs, $2.3 million capital investment), Milo’s Tea expansion (30 Jobs, $3.5 million capital investment), Gestamp ($80 million capital investment), Sawyer Solutions (2 jobs, $10,300 capital investment), Extruflex (16 jobs, $585,600 capital investment), Infomedia (4 jobs), Dread River Distilling (10 jobs, $3 million capital investment), M & B Hangers (7 jobs, $2.5 million capital investment), Fravert Services expansion (2 jobs,$300,000 capital investment), Motion Industries expansion (60 jobs, $9.6 million capital investment), Motion Mobs expansion (4 jobs), Benjamin Moore expansion ($3.8 million capital investment), Alabama Crown Distributing expansion (7 jobs, $5.7 million capital investment), Performance Architectural expansion (30 jobs, $2.3 million capital investment), Pinson Valley Heat Treating expansion (3 jobs, $2 million capital investment), National Mill Maintenance expansion ($325,000 capital investment), Coca-Cola Bottling Co.expansion (34 jobs, $5 million capital investment),Southern Sky Aviation (50 new jobs), and Stewart Industries International (200 new jobs, $4 million capital investment).
